Tom Slavin is a health and safety professional with over 40 years’ experience in safety, industrial hygiene, fire prevention, safety management and litigation support. He is currently Consulting Industrial Hygienist for Cardno ChemRisk, a consulting firm that specializes in industrial hygiene, exposure assessment, safety, human and ecological risk assessment and risk analysis of consumer products, contaminated sites, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices. Previously, Mr. Slavin worked 33 years for Navistar Inc. a manufacturer of trucks, school buses and diesel engines, retiring as Global Safety and Health Director. Before joining Navistar, he was Industrial Hygiene Coordinator for the Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Association in Detroit. Prior to that he was with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company where he provided loss prevention, fire prevention and industrial hygiene services to commercial clients.

Mr. Slavin consults in the areas of occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, management systems, workplace monitoring and exposure assessments, regulatory compliance and auditing, historical state-of-knowledge regarding workplace safety and health, and other occupational safety and health issues. Areas of specialty include silica, metalworking fluids, diesel emissions, asbestos, foundries, PPE, and regulatory and consensus standards. He is president of the YPSW chapter of the American Industrial Hygiene Association, past chair of the American Foundry Society safety and health committee, past chair of the ASTM E34 Occupational Safety and Health Standards committee (currently chair of the occupational health subcommittee), and is a past board chair of the Institute for Safety and Health Management. He is active on ANSI Z10 Committee on Occupational Safety and Health Management Systems, ANSI Z16 Committee on Recordkeeping, ANSI Z244 Committee on Control of Hazardous Energy, ANSI Z9 committee on ventilation, and the US Technical Advisory Group for the ISO 45001 Occupational Safety and Health Management Systems standards. He has been a member of the NIOSH National Occupational Research Agenda (NORA) Team on Musculoskeletal Disorders and currently serves on the NORA manufacturing sector team.
