Cardno is well positioned to help companies prepare for and comply with the California Safer Consumer Products (SCP) regulation.
SCP regulations require California's Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) to publish a list of candidate chemicals, then identify products containing these chemicals. Given that 1,200-plus chemicals are expected to be identified, a huge universe of products and their supply chains could be impacted across all industries selling goods in California.
By spring of 2014, the DTSC will publish an initial list of five product-chemical combinations known as "priority products." After a stakeholder review process, these priority products move into a phase where responsible entities will be notified and required to respond.
- Within 60 days, responsible entities must respond with the appropriate notification.
- Within 180 days, responsible entities must submit a detailed alternatives analysis for products containing those priority materials.
This is a huge undertaking for any company. So be proactive and know your options and opportunities before the compliance deadline. Cardno is available – right now – to help you evaluate your products, understand the chemicals they contain and assess alternatives. This, in turn, will enable you manage risk, keep your product on the market and in compliance, and minimize business interruptions.
